Puglia Wedding Venues
Puglia is located on the Southern peninsular of Italy, and borders the Adriatic Sea to the east, the Ionian Sea and Strait of Otranto to the southeast, and the Gulf of Taranto to the south. Puglia is a popular wedding destination because of its beautiful beaches and tranquil countryside, making it ideal for a beach wedding in one of the luxurious beach resorts, or a fairytale wedding in an historic castle, surrounded by vineyards. With many venues offering accommodation for you and your guests, or for your honeymoon, you have the option of doing everything on site. The mediterranean climate offers dry summers and mild winters, which is perfect for weddings and honeymoons, and with so much to do in this area, it is no wonder it is a popular destination. Famous for its delicious and fresh cuisine, local specialities include orecchiette pasta, burrata cheese, and seafood, created by locally sourced, rich olive oil, and seasonal ingredients, with many weddings featuring a multi-course menu. Puglia boasts many castles and fortresses that are well-worth a visit such as, the Castello Normanno-Svevo in Bari, an historic fortress that gives you a glimpse into the region’s medieval history, and the Castel del Monte, a 13th century castle with a unique octagonal shape that was built by Emperor Frederick II.
Puglia beaches are known for their clear waters and dramatic cliffs which make for beautiful backdrops on your wedding photos, not to mention the fabulous watersports and swimming. For a natural wonder, then visit the Grotte di Castellana, an extensive network of limestone caves, that offer guided tours of stunning underground formations. The Cathedral of Otranto is another place of interest, with its 12th century mosaic floor, depicting the Tree of Life, and its crypt of ancient frescoes. Puglia is also home to one of the largest collections of ancient Greek artifacts in Italy, Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Taranto, a fabulous museum, and a must visit, along with the Pinacoteca di Bari, an art gallery that displays works from the medieval period to the 19th century. If you like the outdoors, then Salento Peninsula is a great rural landscape, dotted with ancient olive trees and historic masserie (Italian farmhouses), and a great place for hiking with the rolling hills and the never-ending vineyards. The cuisine in Puglia is as delicious as it is authentic, with its orecchiette pasta, focaccia, and seafood specialties, not forgetting the local wines, like Primitivo and Negroamaro, a perfect accompaniment to your wedding reception meal.
With Puglia having everything to make your wedding day a romantic affair, mixed with its rich history and local culture, together with the local cuisine and friendly hospitality, your wedding day and honeymoon will be an event that will live in your memory forever.
