Imagine a role where every day entails speaking with couples about planning their dream wedding abroad. For our destination wedding planners, Roxie and Peggy, this is not just a job - it is a passion. We sat down with both of them to delve into a little more about what they adore about their role, their top tips for planning a destination wedding, and a little more insight into what they do.
With nine years of experience at The Wedding Travel Company, Roxie has developed a profound love for the Caribbean. "Assisting couples in booking their dream wedding abroad is incredibly rewarding," she expresses. "From the very first call, where we jot down the couple's requirements, I begin the journey of planning their special day. This involves thoroughly understanding each couple's needs to create a personalised wedding proposal that aligns with their vision."
Roxie elaborates further, saying, "We often encounter couples who are uncertain about their wedding destination. In such cases, I typically begin by enquiring about their preferences, whether it is a beach, mountain, chapel, yacht, garden or another setting. Using my expertise and knowledge of our venues, I create a shortlist of three venues that I recommend based on our discussions."
Peggy, who has been planning weddings for over 5 years, also shared her experiences. “I love all aspects of my role, but for me, the best part is seeing everything come together in the end with happy couples in their photos and videos from their wedding day.”
“Life as a planner is always busy, but it is also super rewarding,” Peggy added. “My role is quite varied and involves viewing venues, menu tasting, attending wedding shows, and of course communicating with couples. I do everything from finding their dream wedding venue based on their preferences, right through to all the elements on the day such as flowers, accommodation, and assisting with travel plans.”
When we asked Peggy what her top tips were, she said: “My top tip is for couples to remember that destination weddings are very different from UK weddings; from the weather to the cuisine to the timings of the day, to the legal process. Everything is different abroad.”
