The Cloisters of Saint Francis, built in the 14th century, is situated on the coastal town of Sorrento in south western Italy facing the Bay of Naples and is the most romantic setting for a wedding in Italy. Perched on the top of the cliffs, above the busy marinas, this special, quaint town is full of character and charm, with its historic centre being a warren of narrow alleys and walkways and home to the 14th-Century Chiesa di San Francesco church. Nestled amongst lemon and orange groves, surrounded by craggy cliffs rising 55 meters above the sea, this beautiful town is known for its laid-back atmosphere and cafe-lined streets with noble houses. Steeped in rich history after being ruled by a mixture of Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, French and Spanish, you cannot help but take note of its wonderful architecture and hear hints of Spanish in the local dialect. Some interesting places to visit include the rare 13th century Veniero Palace, the 16th century Sedil Dominova and the 14th century Correale Palace. The many shops, bars and restaurants offer local delights, such as the delicious Caprese Almond cake from one of the many pastry shops.
